Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek will lead you to the stunning Tsho Rolpa Lake located at 4,183 meters between the mountain ranges of Everest and Langtang. As a matter of fact, Tsho Rolpa Lake is also the biggest glacier lake in Nepal. The trail will take you to the famous hidden valley, Rolwaling Valley where the mysterious Yeti is believed to exist.

On the way, you will get to see impressive terraced fields, picturesque villages, beautiful fast-flowing rivers, dense forests, and stunning glaciers. You will also get to witness panoramic views of snow-capped mountains like Gauri Shankar (7,145 m), Melungtse (7,181 m), Langtang Himal Range (7,234 m), and many others. As the trek begins at a low altitude, you will have enough opportunity to acclimatize with the increasing altitude before reaching the lake.

 

Day to Day Itinerary

After having breakfast, we will drive to Shingati. The drive will be long yet present you beautiful views of landscape and outskirts of Nepal. Along the way, we can enjoy views of the Sunkoshi & Bhote Kosi rivers, picturesque villages, lush green hills, mountains, and terraced fields. We will stay overnight in a lodge.

    We will begin trekking following a narrow trail along the Tamakoshi River Valley. Further, we will ascend on a cliff trail to reach Suri Dhoban from where we can see a wonderful view of Mt. Gaurishankar (7,134 m). We will then cross a suspension bridge and ascend uphill passing through prayer wheels and mani stones. The trail will take us to Manthali village. From here, we will cross a suspension bridge and trek along the side of a river bank to reach Jagat.

      We will descend to a river bank and further, trek through a forested trail. We will then cross a river at Gonggar village and ascend on the stone staircase. On the way, we will get to see gorgeous waterfalls. We will reach Chhet Chhet, which is a Sherpa village. From here, we will cross a suspension bridge and ascend into a forest. The trail from here will take us to Simi Gaun where we will stop for the night.

        We will walk to the other side of the village and descend. Further, we will traverse around the ridge and then the trail goes through dense forest as we approach Rolwaling River. On the way, we will get to see the glimpse of Mt. Gaurishankar. We will walk on a steep stone staircase and reach Gyalchen where we will stay overnight in a lodge.

          We will trek through a forest. The trail will include numerous ascends and descends. We will reach Nyamare village and continue trekking to reach Beding, the largest forgotten Sherpa village in Rolwaling valley. Later, we will explore the gompa located at the entrance of the village.

            We will ascend on the right bank of Rolwaling River and trek to reach kharka in Dhogre. On the way, we will get to witness amazing views of Mt. Gaurishankar. Further, the valley opens up and we will enter in the U-shaped valley. We will go through huge mani stone decorated with colorful prayer flags and reach Nagaon where we will spend the night in a lodge.

              Today is our first acclimatization day in the Nagaon, which is located at the base of a huge chain of mountains. We will explore the village and go on the side trip to Dudh Pokhari and small monastery located before Nagaon. We will get to see the lifestyle and culture of the locals. Overnight in a lodge.

                Today is the most exciting day as we will trek to the Tsho Rolpa Lake located at 4,183 meters. We will wake up early in the morning and begin trekking towards the lake. Crossing a bridge over Rolwaling River, we will ascend and walk between two glaciers and finally reach the Tsho Rolpa Lake. We will spend the night near the lake in a tented camp.

                  Today is our second acclimatization day at the lake. We will explore the nearby area, which offers breathtaking views of surrounding hills and snow-capped mountains. We will see panoramic views of the Everest Range, Langtang Range, and Mt. Gaurishankar. Overnight in a tented camp.

                    We will trek back to Beding with lots of unforgettable memories with us. We will trek back on the same route as we have come before. We will reach Nagaon and continue our trek towards Beding following the trail of Rolwaling River. We will stay overnight in a lodge.

                      After having breakfast, we will begin ascending towards Daldung La Pass. The trail will be long and exhausting as we have to trek on a rugged and steep trail. Upon reaching the pass, we will get to see a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. We will stay overnight at the pass.

                        After breakfast, we will descend steeply to reach the Rolwaling River. Further, we will trek through a dense forest and traverse on a ridge before reaching Simi Gaun where we will stay overnight in a lodge.

                          We will trek back on the same trail to reach Jagat. We will trek and descend into a forest. Further crossing a suspension bridge, we will reach Chhet Chhet village. From here, we will descend on a steep stone staircase and reach Gonggar village. We will then cross a river and trek through a forested trail to reach Jagat.

                            We will trek along the side of a river and cross a suspension bridge. Further, we will cross Manthali village and trek through prayer wheels and mani stones. We will then descend and cross a suspension bridge. The trail will then takes us to Suri Dhoban and further, we will descend to the Tamakoshi River Valley. From here, we will trek through a narrow valley and reach Shigati.

                              After having breakfast, we will drive back to Kathmandu. The drive will be long yet present you beautiful views of landscape and outskirts of Nepal. Along the way, we can enjoy views of the Sunkoshi & Bhote Kosi rivers, picturesque villages, lush green hills, mountains, and terraced fields. We will stay overnight in a lodge.

                                Tradition & Culture in Tsho Rolpa

                                People residing in Tsho Rolpa generally follows Buddhism. As most part of the trail is nearby Tibet border so the region is also influenced by Tibetan Buddhist culture and tradition.  Besides that, we will also see people from other communities like Sherpa, Chhetri, Brahmin, and Tamang. We will get to witness ancient Tibetan Buddhist shrines, centuries-old monasteries, chortens, prayer walls, and kaanis. Moreover, the isolation of this region has contributed immensely to conserve the cultural heritage and tradition for centuries.

                                Accommodations

                                We will be staying in 2 or 3-star hotels in Kathmandu. During the Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek, we will stay in teahouse. Teahouse is basically a combination of hotel and lodge. The room will be small with little furniture, bed & blanket. All the accommodations are on a twin-sharing basis. On special request, single rooms can be arranged in the cities. However, single rooms might not be available all the time due to the limited service on higher elevations. Please understand that the services in the teahouse will be very basic and also all the teahouse does not come with attached washrooms.

                                Meals & Drinking Water

                                In Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek, we will enjoy authentic Nepalese food with few other cuisines like Tibetan. Meals will be served as per the menu of the teahouse. Beside that you can find cookies, butter tea, bars, bread, extra on the trail but, remember as the elevation get higher, the cost also gets high. In Kathmandu, you will only get breakfast. There will also be welcome and farewell dinner for you.

                                Drinking water can be easily found everywhere. You can get hot water from the teahouse and fill in your bottle every time it gets empty. So, do carry a reusable water bottle with yourself. We request you to not buy mineral water bottle on the way as it will help in preserving the region. Moreover, you can also carry water purifier tablets or SteriPen with yourself to purify the water.

                                Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek Difficulty & Physical Fitness

                                Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek is a moderate trek. The trails are not so difficult and challenging in terms of technical climbing but, do includes 6-8 hours of walk each day. Therefore you need to be passionate and in good health. Trekking to the higher altitude always demands average physical fitness, positive attitude, and a strong determination. If you have any previous hiking or trekking experience it would be great but, it's not mandatory to go on Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek.

                                Other than that, if you have any kind of health related issues then do consult with your doctors before booking the trip. In case of any medical history, we highly recommend you to inform us so that any future event can be tackled without having any issue.

                                Best Season to go on Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek

                                Spring (March to May) and Autumn (last September to November) are the best seasons to go the Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek. While in Monsoon the trail becomes slippery and region receives high rainfall.  However, in winter the trek can be done but, this time of the year might not be suitable for everyone because of the extreme cold.

                                Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek Permit

                                Trekking in Tsho Rolpa requires to have Gaurishankar Conservation Area entry permit. Besides that,

                                you also required to get TIMS card (TIMS cards is not needed if you have immigration permit).
