Rara-Humla Trek will take you to one of the restricted as well as isolated regions of Nepal. The trek is full of adventures, wilderness, and off the beaten paths. This trek is paradise for natural and adventure lovers. We will get to see breath-taking raw sceneries as the region is not touched by the modernization. Moreover, we will witness wildlife like the Himalayan black bear, musk deer, red panda, mules, and 260 species of birds. The trail includes a unique topography, which is known as Nepali flat where one corner it’s ascent where on another corner there is decent.

Day to Day Itinerary
Day 01Flight Kathmandu - Nepalgunj
After having breakfast, we will head to the airport to take the flight for Nepalgunj. The flight will be around one and a half hours and presents scenic views. Upon arriving Nepalgunj, we will move to our hotel. Later, we will look around the town and visit some landmarks.
Day 02Flight Nepalgunj - Jumla
After having breakfast, we will head to the airport for our another flight to Jumla. The flight will be around 45 minutes, and we can see stunning views of Annapurna Ranges (8,091 m) and Dhaulagiri Peaks (8,167 m) in the north. Upon reaching Jumla, we will head to our hotel where we will stay for a night. In the late afternoon, we will also explore the town and visit a few landmarks.
Day 03Jumla - Nauri Ghat crossing the Danphe Lagna pass (3691 m) 7 hrs
We will begin trekking along the north bank of the Tila Khola. From here, we will turn to north, trek following Chaudhabise Khola and go through fields & pine forests. We will reach a small village called Uthugaon and continue trekking through a narrow canyon and reach Padmara village. Further, we ascend and descend through dense forests of pine, spurches, firs, briches, and rhododendrons to reach Danfe Lagna Pass. We will then descend steeply through a dense forest of birch, walnut, bamboo & fir and cross a bridge. From this point of the trek, the trail will become difficult as we will ascend all the way up to the Bhara Village. From here, we will descend and reach Nauri Ghat where we will stop for the night.
Day 04Nauri Ghat - Jharigaon crossing the Ghurchi Lagna pass (3447 m) 8-9 hrs
We will trek following a stream uphill to Bhulbhule, which is the entrance of the Rara National Park (3,130 m). From here, we will continue climbing steadily to Ghurchi Lagna Pass marked with chortens and colorful prayer flags. Further, we will descend through spruce forest and reach Dhotu Village. We will then trek on a steep north facing slope from Dhotu, and crossing several fields, we will descend to a small stream. We will cross the stream and ascend to a Thakuri village, Jharigaon where we will stop for the night.
Day 05Jharigaon - Rara Lake 3 hrs
Day 06Rara Lake ( Rest day and local exploration )
Today is our rest day. We will spend the day exploring the Rara Lake and its nearby areas. As a matter of fact, Rara Lake is the largest lake in Nepal. As this region is a part of the national park, we will get to witness several unique flora and fauna. Moreover, this region has got wildlife like red panda, musk deer, serows, gorals, both rhesus, and langur monkeys.
Day 07Rara Lake - Gamgadhi 4 hrs
We will descend to Gamgadhi after having breakfast. We will trek towards the Karnali bridge and around 4 hours trek from here will take us to Bala Village. Further, around one and a half hour walk will lead us to our final destination Gamgadhi.
Day 08Gamgadhi - Bam 5 hrs
We will leave Gamgadhi and cross a bridge. We will then ascend on a steep rocky trail until we reach a ridge at 2,180 meters. From here, we will descend to a small river and again ascend through the fields and pine forest towards a ridge. We will continue trekking and reach Bam Village where we will be staying for the night.
Day 09Bam - Jogimara via Changkheli Lagna (3594 m) 7 hrs
We will trek along a hillside and reach a stream at Ghachaur. From here, we will begin ascending towards a pass, which will take around three and a half hours to reach. The trail will be exhausting as we will be ascending for a long time. After reaching a pass, we will get to witness stunning view of the surrounding. Further, an easy descent will take us to a campsite near a stream. We will continue trekking to reach Jogimara our last stop for the day.
Day 10Jogimara - Darma Bazar 5 hrs
We will ascend to a ridge at 3,120 meters, and from here, we will have a long descend towards a small stream. We will then ascend crossing an adventurous landslide area and trek to Deuri passing by a local school. We will then descend to Darma Bazar where we are going to stay for the night.
Day 11Darma Bazar - Apsia Lek 6 hrs
We will descend steeply to the main trail by the riverside. We will then cross a suspension bridge over Humla Karnali and a short ascend from here will take us to Piplan. Continuing our trek through small villages, we will ascend and cross a basin between ridges. On the way, we will take a small break near a stream for lunch and again ascend towards the Puma Village. From here, we will again ascend through pine forest and reach Apsia Lek .
Day 12Apsia Lek - Punkha Khola 4 hrs
We will trek along with beautiful views of Siapal and surrounding valleys. We will reach Kallas and further descend to a river. We will then ascend towards a ridge and again descend to the Rodikot Khola. From here, we will ascend on the east and reach Punkha Khola where we will stop for the night.
Day 13Punkha Khola - River Camp 6 hrs
We will begin our day with a climb through steep switchbacks to Kharka (3,512 m). We will continue ascending and see the first views of Simikot. After a long ascent, we will descend steeply to the Yanchu Khola where we will be camping near the riverside.
Day 14River Camp - Simikot 7 hrs
We will descend towards a river and ascend to the Durpa Village. From here, we will descend to a pilgrimage site, Kharpunath and another around 30 minutes walk will take us to Kudila Kola Valley. Further, we will ascend and cross a metal bridge. The trail from here will take us to Simikot.
Day 15Simikot - Dharapuri 4 hrs
We will begin climbing to a pass (3,150 m). From here, the trail descends to through the pine forest where we can see local people in their traditional dress accompanied by their herds of cattle and reach Majgaon. From Majgaon, the trail becomes rough. On one corner it’s ascent where on another corner there is descent. Moreover, this particular topography is known as Nepali flat. We will reach Dharapuri where we are going to stay for the night.
Day 16Dharapuri - Kermi 3 hrs
Following the Karnali Riverbank, we will trek on a unique trail where we will see elevation changing every time within couple hundred meters. The trail also includes narrow gorges of Karnali River along with high rocky slopes. Further, we will trek along the fields of buckwheat, barley, bean, rice, and potatoes. Upon reaching Kermi, we will get to enjoy hot spring and spend the rest of the day exploring the village.
Day 17Kermi - Yalbang 5 hrs
The trail is respectively easier and flat today except for a small pass. We will cross an iron suspension bridge over the Sali River. From this point, the trail descends through beautiful pine and rhododendron trees. We will reach Yalbang Village. There are many sites to visit in this village. We will visit the ancient monastery, Namkha Khyung Dzong Monastery, which is also the largest monastery of the region. Inside the monastery, we will see a huge statue of Shakyamuni Buddha and other smaller statues along with the statue of Guru Rimpoche.
Day 18Yalbang - Thumkot 5 hrs
Today, the trail is going to be adventurous. Most part of the trail is flat except there will be a three-sided tunnel like a trail that is fixed out of massive boulders. We will see the climate changing in every half an hour of walk, and the greenery begins to fade away so do pine forest and small bushes. We will enter in the region on huge rocky hillocks and cross a thrilling wooden bridge over Karnali River. We will ascend on a rugged trail until we reach the top a deep gorge. On the way, we will pass by an army camp, and from here, we will trek for a few hours to reach Thumkot.
Day 19Thumkot - Yari 5 hrs
We will begin ascending steeply with the same views as yesterday. We will enter in a more rocky and barren region where we will begin to see short and low junipers. We will reach Pani Palwang village with some tea houses where we will take a short break for lunch. From here, we will trek to Yari where we will stay overnight.
Day 20Yari - Hilsa crossing the Nara La pass (4620 m) 6 hrs
Today, the trail is quite difficult as we have to cross Nara La Pass located at 4,560 meters. As we move, we will begin to see dry marine land along with the herds of mules, yaks, and dzopas. Even though the trail is hard, the gorgeous sceneries will keep us motivated to walk. Upon reaching the top of the pass, we will see piles of stones and colorful prayer flags looming with the flow of the air. We will see spectacular views of Tibet on one side and Yari village down below. From here, we will have two options to reach Hilsa either go on the dirt trail, which is bit longer et safe or, go on the unstable steep trail, which is short yet adventurous.
Day 21Hilsa . Rest day and local exploration.
Today is our rest day at Hilsa. We will spend our day by exploring the village and going on a hike to nearby areas. We will experience the lifestyle, tradition, and culture of the people residing here, and also taste their food.
Day 22Hilsa - Thumkot 7 hrs
After having breakfast, we will trek back on the same trail as we have come. We will again ascend to the Nara La Pass located at 4,560 meters along with the gorgeous views. From the pass, we will descend and reach Yari. Further, we will trek towards Pani Palwang village, and trekking through short and low junipers, we will reach Thumkot our final destination for the day.
Day 23Thumkot - Kermi 6 hrs
We will again pass by an army camp and descend on a rugged trail to reach the Karnali River. We will cross the river on a wooden bridge and go through huge rocky hillocks. The trail from here will take us to Yalbang village. We will then ascend through beautiful pine and rhododendron trees, and cross Sali River over an iron suspension bridge to reach Kermi.
Day 24Kermi - Simikot 7 hrs
We will begin trekking along the fields of buckwheat, barley, bean, rice, and potatoes. Further, we will go through narrow gorges of Karnali River, and continuing our trek along the Karnali Riverbank, we will reach Dharapuri. Again, we will trek on the Nepali flat and reach Majgaon. A ascend through the pine forest will take us to Simikot where we will stop for the night.
Day 25Flight Simikot - Nepalgunj - Kathmandu
After having breakfast, we will take a flight back to Nepalgunj. Upon reaching Nepalgunj, we will take another flight to Kathmandu. We will head to our hotel and the rest of the day is free for us to relax. Later in the evening, we will explore the colorful and lively streets of Thamel and end our day with a special farewell dinner.

Tradition & Culture
Rara-Humla Trek will offer several ethnic groups and their own tradition & culture. Most of the part is influenced by either Hinduism or Buddhism culture. We will get to witness ancient Tibetan Buddhist shrines, chortens, prayer walls, centuries-old monasteries, and kaanis. We will interact with locals and also experience their lifestyle, tradition, and culture. The people residing here are one of the kindest and most welcoming so don't feel shy to interact with them. Moreover, the isolation of this region has contributed immensely to conserve the cultural heritage and tradition for centuries.
We will be staying in 2 or 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Nepalgunj. During the Rara-Humla Trek, we will stay in tented camp. All the accommodations are on a twin-sharing basis. On special request, single rooms can be arranged in the cities.
Meals & Drinking Water
In Rara-Humla Trek, we will enjoy authentic Nepalese food with few other cuisines like Tibetan. Meals will be cooked and served by the porters during the trek. Beside that you can find bars, bread, cookies, butter tea, extra on the trail but, remember as the elevation get higher, the cost also gets high. In Kathmandu and Nepalgunj you will only get breakfast. There will also be welcome and farewell dinner for you.
Drinking water can be easily found everywhere. Do carry a reusable water bottle with yourself. We request you to not buy mineral water bottle on the way as it will help in preserving the region. Moreover, you can also carry water purifier tablets or SteriPen with yourself to purify the water.
Rara-Humla Trek Difficulty & Physical Fitness
Rara-Humla Trek is a difficult trek. The trails are not so challenging in terms of technical climbing but, do includes 6-9 hours of walk each day. Therefore you need to be passionate and in good health. Trekking to the higher altitude always demands average physical fitness, positive attitude, and a strong determination. If you have any previous hiking or trekking experience it would be great but, it's not mandatory to go on Rara-Humla Trek.
Other than that, if you have any kind of health related issues then do consult with your doctors before booking the trip. In case of any medical history, we highly recommend you to inform us so that any future event can be tackled without having any issue.
Best Season to go on Rara-Humla Trekking
Spring (March to May) and Autumn (mid-September to mid-November) are the best seasons to go the Rara-Humla Trek. In Monsoon the region receives heavy rainfall and trail become slippery and risky. During the winter the climate becomes harsher with extreme cold.
Rara-Humla Trek Permit
Humla is one of the restricted regions of Nepal, and tourists are required to get certain permits to enter in this region. Moreover, you will also need to get a permit to enter in the Rara National Park and DDC (District Development Committee) Tax in Simikot.
Besides that to go on trekking in Nepal you need to get special permission from the Government of Nepal, and also required to get TIMS card (TIMS cards is not needed if you have immigration permit).
