Day to Day Itinerary
Day 01Flight Kathmandu - Tumlingtar (360 m), drive to Num (1500 m) 6 hrs
After having breakfast, we will take a flight to Tumlingtar. Upon reaching Tumlingtar, we will drive towards Num. The drive will be long and scenic. We will go through several small settlements along with views of hills and forest and reach Num where we will be staying overnight.
Day 02Num (1500 m) - Simma (1300 m) via Dovan to cross Arun River, 6 hrs
We will begin descending towards Simma. The trail will be rugged and takes us to Dovan. Further, we will cross Arun River over a bridge and trek further to reach Simma village where we will be staying of the night.
Day 03Simma (1300 m) - Yakuwa (Ekuwa) (2300 m) 5 hrs
After having breakfast, we will begin trekking. We will ascend on fairly rugged trail through forested area. Further, we will descend and again ascend to reach Yakuwa village where we will be staying for the night.
Day 04Yakuwa (Ekuwa) (2300 m) - Buje (1900 m) 8 hrs
We will begin our day with a warm breakfast. Today, the trail will be going to be long and tiring. We will ascend and descend numerous time and go through small villages to reach Buje. Buje is a small yet lovely village.
Day 05Buje (1900 m) - Dhap (3000 m) 6 hrs
We will begin ascending through a rough trail and reach a ridge. From here, we will take a short descend and again ascend all the way up to the Dhap village where we will be staying for the night.
Day 06Dhap (3000 m) - Baule Pokhari (4000 m) 7 hrs
We are going to ascend 1000 meters to reach our next destination Baule Pokhari. As we will gain altitude, we will see a change in the climate. The trail will present superb views of landscapes and go through forested trail. We will reach Baule Pokhari from where we will find ourselves in one of the isolated regions of Nepal.
Day 07Baule Pokhari (4000 m) - Yangle Kharka (3600 m) 7 hrs
We will begin trekking by descending. The trail will include rugged and rocky section. Going through the forested trial, we will reach Yangle Kharka where we will stay overnight.
Day 08Yangle Kharka (3600 m) - Merek (4570 m) 6 hrs
We pass by Nghe Kharka, which is a large open grassy land. From here, our trail gets connected with Riphuk Kharka which is at an elevation of 3,930 meters. We will then begin trekking the west side towards Jhak Kharka and further, ascend to reach Yak Kharka. Continuing our trek from here will take us to Merek where we will stay overnight.
Day 09Merek (4570 m) - Shersong (4660 m) 6 hrs
Today the trail will be going to be short. We will begin ascending on the sandy trail along a stream. We will reach a ridge, and from here, we will turn north to reach Makalu valley. Further, the trail will take us to Shersong where we will stay overnight.
Day 10Shersong (4660 m) - Makalu Base Camp (5000 m) 3 hrs
We are going to ascend towards the Makalu Base Camp. We will wake up early in the morning and begin trekking towards the base camp. We will ascend and reach a pass. From here, we will descend and cross a stream on the boulders and reach the Makalu Base Camp. We will get to see breath-taking views of the snow-capped mountains and sceneries.
Day 11Explore MBC and return to Shersong (4660 m) 3-5 hours
Today, we will explore the base camp and its nearby areas. After spending some time on the Makalu Base Camp, we will return back to Shersong where we are going to spend one more night. We will trek back on the same trail as we have come.
Day 12Shersong (4660 m) - Yangle Kharka (3600 m) 6 hrs
From today onwards, we will trek back to the place from where we have started trekking. We will begin descending on a steep trail down to the Barun Valley. Further, the trial takes us to Yangle Kharka where we will stop for the night.
Day 13Yangle Kharka (3600 m) - Thulo Pokhari (4000 m) 7 hrs
After having breakfast, we will begin trekking. The trail will be going to be long and also present scenic views of mountain landscapes. We will ascend steeply and reach Thulo Pokhari crossing small settlements. We are going to stay for a night here.
Day 14Thulo Pokhari (4000 m) - Tashigaon (2070 m) 7 hrs
We will begin trekking after having breakfast. From here, we will begin trekking in the west and continue descending all the way down to the Tashigaon. On the way, we will go through several lovely small villages, forested trails, and stream. We will cross a meadow and finally reach Tashigaon where we will be staying for the night.
Day 15Tashigaon (2070 m) - Seduwa (1610 m) 6 hrs
After crossing several meadows and streams, we will reach Ropesa village. From here, we will trek towards Hindrungma Village. Further, the trail will ascend towards Chyaksadanda and to Kasuwa Khola. We will then descend gradually and reach another village, called Manigaon. A short walk from here will take us to Sedua where we will stay for the night.
Day 16Seduwa (1610 m) - Num (1500 m) 7 hrs
We will begin our day with a descent on a rough trail, and cross a suspension bridge over Arun koshi. From here, the trail becomes very steep so we trek careful and reach Lumbang. We will then ascend towards the Num ridge, and reach the Num village where we are supposed to stay overnight.
Day 17Num (1500 m) - Tumlingtar (6 hrs drive)
After having breakfast, we will begin driving towards Tumlingtar in a private tourist bus/van. The drive will be long and scenic. We will go through several small settlements and forested route to reach Tumlingtar.
Day 18Morning flight Tumlingtar to Kathmandu
After having breakfast, we will head to the airport and fly back to Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu, we will head to our hotel and rest for the day. Later in the evening, we will explore the streets of Thamel and have farewell dinner with other crew members.
Tradition & Culture in Makalu Base Camp Trek Via Arun Valley
Makalu is mostly influenced by Buddhists and Tibetan Buddhists culture. We will get to witness ancient Tibetan Buddhist shrines, chortens, prayer walls, centuries-old monasteries, and kaanis. Please understand that the services in the teahouse will be very basic and also all the teahouse does not come with attached washrooms.
Meals & Drinking Water

If we are caping then our meals will be prepared by crew members. Beside that you can find bars, bread, cookies, butter tea, extra on the trail but, remember as the elevation get higher, the cost also gets high. In Kathmandu you will only get breakfast. There will also be welcome and farewell dinner for you.
Drinking water can be easily found everywhere. You can get hot water from the teahouse and fill in your bottle everytime it gets empty. So, do carry a reusable water bottle with yourself. We request you to not buy mineral water bottle on the way as it will help in preserving the region. Moreover, you can also carry water purifier tablets or SteriPen with yourself to purify the water.
