The Everest to Rolwaling via Tashi Labsta Trek will present us spectacular trekking experience combining the classic Everest Base Camp trail with the striking Gokyo Lakes and the challenging passes of Cho La and Tashi Labsta, and further take us into the Rolwaling region. The trek will offer impressive views of Gokyo Ri (5,360 m), Mt Everest (8,848 m), Cho Oyo (8,188 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), Island Peak (6,189 m), Mt. Nuptse (7,861 m), and many other snow-covered mountains. We will cross one of the most challenging passes of the Himalayas, Tashi Labsta Pass (5,755 m) from where we will get to witness breath-taking views of this region. The trail will include several ascends and descends, astonishing glaciers, rivers, streams, attractive forest of rhododendron, pine & fir, and charming villages.

 

Day to Day Itinerary

We will fly to Lukla today. The flight will be short and present us scenic views of hills and snow-capped mountains. Upon reaching Lukla, we will begin trekking towards Phakding. We will descend down to the Dudh Koshi River where we will get connected with the main trail of Namche Bazaar. Further, we will trek to Ghat and reach Phakding for the night stay.

We will begin trekking along the river and further, go through a beautiful forest of rhododendron and blue pine. We will reach Benkar and get to see stunning views of Mt. Thamserku (6,623 m), Mt. Kusum Kanguru (6,367 m), and other mountains from here. We will then ascend and trek through the upstream on flat land, on the bank, to the fusion point of the Dudh Koshi River and Bhote Koshi River. Further, we will cross a suspension bridge and again ascend to reach Namche Bazaar where we will stay overnight.

Today is our rest day at the Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is one the main village of the entire Himalayan Region. It is also one of the biggest residing areas of Sherpa's. We will explore the village and go on the small hike to see the amazing views of snow-capped mountains like mt. Everest (8,848 m) and other Khumbu Peaks. We will then walk towards Thami where we will visit national park headquarters to look at the unique display of Sherpa culture or visit the lovely Bhote Khola River Valley.

We will begin descending down the small villages and reach Shanasa. From here, we will trek towards Trashinga, and descend down to the Dudh Koshi River at Phunkitenga. Further, we will ascend through the beautiful forest of juniper, pine, rhododendron, and fir. We will reach Tengboche and greeted by the panoramic views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Mt. Kantega (6,782 m), and other mountains. Here, we will visit one of the oldest and major monasteries of this region, Tengboche Monastery. You will stay overnight at the lodge.

We will descend through the forest of fir, rhododendron, juniper, and birch at Debuche. Further, we will ascend all the way up, and then, cross Imja Khola. From here, we will head towards Pangboche where we will see a stunning view of Mt. Ama Dablam (6,812 m). Again, we will ascend and go through the hillsides and cross Imja Khola and finally reach Dingboche.

Today is our another acclimatization day at the Dingboche. We will wake up early in the morning and begin our day with a delicious breakfast. After that, will explore the area and go on the hike to Chukung. After spending some time, we will return back to the lodge. We will also get to interact with the locals and experience their lifestyle and culture.

We will begin our trek by ascending toward the drain of the Khumbu. We will then trek for an hour and ascend towards the Khumbu Glacier. Further, we will reach Dughla, and from here, we ascend steeply to the top of the moraine. Continue trekking on the flat land on the west part of the moraine, we reach Lobuche.

We will begin ascending towards Gorak Shep. We will ascend and descend through moraines and reach Gorak Shep. From here, we will trek towards the world famous Everest Base Camp (5,380 m). The trail will be rocky and covered with snow. Upon reaching EBC, we will see the enchanting views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Mt. Kangtega (6,782 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), Mt. Nuptse (7,861 m), and many other mountains. After spending some time on the Everest Base Camp, we will trek back to Gorak Shep where we will going to stay overnight.

We will wake up early in the morning, have our breakfast, and begin our hike towards Kala Patthar (5,545 m). We will get to witness 360-degree views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m) and other surrounding mountains. After spending some time on Kala Patthar, we will head back to Gorak Shep, and continue trekking towards Lobuche where we will stay for the night.

After having breakfast, we will begin trekking towards Dzongla. The trail will descend through the rhododendron bushes and small villages. From today onwards, the trail is relatively less crowded. We will reach Dzongla where we will stop for the night.

Today is going to be the tough trekking day. We will begin trekking through spur and then descend to a basin. From here, we will ascend to the Cho La Pass, and as we will gain altitude, the views become more mesmerizing. Upon reaching the top, we will see numerous prayer flags, flapping with the flow of the wind. We will then descend on the rocky trail and reach Dragnag village where we will stay for the night.

We will trek and reach at the edge of the Ngozumpa Glacier, which is the longest glacier of Nepal. We will trek and reach the other side of the glacier from where we will see the second lake. A short trek will take us to third lake, Gokyo Lake where Gokyo Village is situated.

We will wake up early in the morning and begin trekking towards Gokyo Ri. We will get to see Thonak Tsho Lake (forth lake) and Ngozuma Thso lake (fifth lake) on the way. Moreover, we will also see panoramic views of Mt. Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Cho-Oyu, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Makalu, and other several mountains from the top of the Gokyo Ri. if the weather is favorable, we might trek to the sixth lake as well.

We will wake up early in the morning and have our breakfast. After that, we will begin ascending on a steep trail to reach the top of the Renjo La Pass. From the top, we will get to see the captivating views of mountains like Mt. Everest, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu. Furthermore, we will also see enchanting views of Gokyo Lakes, Rolwaling, and Rermo Pokhari Lake. After spending some time of the pass, we will descend towards Bhote Koshi Valley. The trail from here will take us to Lumde where we will stay for the night.

We will descend down to the Thame village. Upon reaching the village, we will visit an old monastery and explore the village. In the evening, we will get to witness gorgeous landscapes with the Himalayan mountains. We will stay overnight in this village.

We will ascend towards Pachemuche Tsho where we are going to stay for the night. The trail will be pretty easy and present us gorgeous views of landscapes.

We will continue ascending through rugged trail covered with small boulders in many sections. The trail will mostly include uphill climb and take us to Ngole, our last destination for the day.

We will wake up early in the morning to trek towards Tashi Labsta Camp. We will begin our trek early to avoid the windy trail during the afternoon. The trail will be a little difficult but, the views we will get from the base camp is unspeakable. We will stay for the night here.

The first half of the trek is ascended and take us to Labsta La Pass located at 5,755 meters. From here, we will begin descending to the Glacier Camp along with the pleasant views of the mountain landscapes.

After having breakfast, we will begin trekking. The trail will descend through forested trail and small villages and take us to Na Gaon where we will stay overnight.

The trail will be going to presents pleasant views of the surrounding. We will descend along the river bank and reach Bedding. From here, we will cross a thrilling bridge over a deep gorge. Further, the trail descends through rhododendron forest and take us to Dokhang where we will stay for the night.

After having breakfast, we will head towards Simigaon. The trail will go through several small villages where we will see locals doing their daily activities. Further, we will trek along the Rolwaling River and reach Simigaon where we will stop for the night.

Today is going to be a long day. We will descend to Bulungse along with the beautiful views. Upon reaching, Bulungse we will freshen up and rest for a bit. Later, we will explore the region and end our day with a filling dinner.

We will begin descending towards Loting. The trail will include small villages and rhododendron & pine trees. We can see the high Himalayas on a far distant along our way. We will reach Loting where we will stop for the night.

Today, we will ascend and descend a few times to reach Bigu Gompa. Upon reaching here, we will explore the village and also visit an ancient gompa. We will see monks praying inside the gompa.

We will begin our day early in the morning as we have to cross a pass today. We will ascend on a steep trail through rhododendron and pine forest and reach Tinsang-La Pass. From the top of this pass, we will get to see amazing views of the surrounding. We will then descend to reach Sano Jyandan, our halt for the day.

Trekking through the rhododendron, pine & fir forest, we will descend Borderlands. On the way, we will also cross several villages. The trail will be a little difficult as most parts of the section include steep descend. Upon reaching Borderlands, we will rest and also prepare to leave tomorrow.

Tradition & Culture in Everest to Rolwaling via Tashi Labsta Trek

Everest is mostly resided by Sherpas. They follow Buddhists and Tibetan Buddhists culture. We will get to witness ancient Tibetan Buddhist shrines, chortens, centuries-old monasteries, prayer walls, and kaanis. We will interact with locals and also experience their unique lifestyle, tradition, and culture.

 

Accommodations

We will be staying in 2 or 3-star hotels in Kathmandu. During the Everest to Rolwaling via Tashi Labsta Trek, we will stay in a teahouse or in camp. Teahouse is basically a combination of hotel and lodge. The room will be small with little furniture, bed & blanket. All the accommodations are on a twin-sharing basis. On special request, single rooms can be arranged in the cities. However, single rooms might not be available all the time due to the limited service on higher elevations. Please understand that the services in the teahouse will be very basic and also all the teahouse does not come with attached washrooms.

 

Meals & Drinking Water

In Everest to Rolwaling via Tashi Labsta Trek, we will enjoy authentic Nepalese food with few other cuisines like Tibetan, Indian. Meals will be served as per the menu of the teahouse. If we will stay in the camp then, we all the meals will be cooked by the porters. Beside that you can find bars, bread, cookies, butter tea, extra on the trail but, remember as the elevation get higher, the cost also gets high. In Kathmandu, you will only get breakfast. There will also be welcome and farewell dinner for you.

Drinking water can be easily found everywhere. You can get hot water from the teahouse and fill in your bottle everytime it gets empty. So, do carry a reusable water bottle with yourself. We request you to not buy mineral water bottle on the way as it will help in preserving the region. Moreover, you can also carry water purifier tablets or SteriPen with yourself to purify the water.

Tashi Labsta La/Rolwaling is one of the restricted regions of Nepal, and tourists are required to get certain permits to enter in this region. We will also need to get Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project (GCAP) and Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit.
