Everest Base Camp Trekking is most popular trekking trail in Nepal, situated at the heart of the Himalayas at a height of 5,600 m. The Everest base camp has become the dream for many explorers who wish to reach to the Mt. Everest, the world highest and the most beautiful mountain in the earth. 

The trekking to the Everest base camp has been eminent from when Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenjing Norgay Sherpa made the summit successfully for the first time in 1953. since its establishment, Royal Himalayan Safari has been arranging all sorts of trekking, either camping or tea house in this route throughout the year but the best season to visit this region is considered to from the beginning of March to mid-May and from the beginning of September to mid-November.

The Everest base camp trekking along with Gokyo and Kalapathar is one of the most visited and considered to be one of the challenging trekking routes in Khumbu region, the north-east of Nepal and the home town of legendary Sherpa ethnic groups. 

This trekking is famous for both hiking in the high Himalayas but also for its breath taking Himalayan vistas of the highest peaks of the world, the Mt. Everest [8,848m] along with other peaks such as Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201 m), Mt. Nuptse (7855m), Mt. Pumori (7161m), Mt. Changaste (7550m), Mt. Lingterin (6679m), Mt. Amadablam (6856m), Mt. Thamserku (6723m), Mt. Kantega( 6685m), Mt. Lotse (8,516 m) among others.

Similarly, the visitors are overwhelmed with the views of unbelievable peaks, Buddhist monasteries, unique landscapes and warm hospitality of friendly Sherpa ethnic groups

The trekking to Everest Base Camp begins by flight from Kathmandu to the mountain airstrip to Lukla, (the heart of Everest Region) then after about three hours walk, you will reach at Phakding and continue north up to Dudh Kosi valley and to Namche bazaar, where there you will spend one day for acclimatization. Then next day, you will continue trekking to Kala-Palapathar, along with Gokyo valley and finally reach to the Everest base Camp. Making excursion around, you will return back to Dingboche or Pheriche and ultimately return back to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.....

Day to Day Itinerary

Upon arrival, You will be picked up by one of our representatives from the Tribhuvan International Airport. He will take you to your hotel in a private bus/van. The rest of the day is free for you to rest. In the evening, you will meet with your guide and end your day with a traditional welcome dinner.

    We will wake up early in the morning and have our breakfast. After that, we will go on the guided sightseeing tour where we will see the famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We will visit the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Later in the evening, we will prepare for our trek and do the last minute shopping if needed.

      We will head to the airport and fly to Lukla. The flight will be scenic and we will get to see stunning views of hills, rivers, and snow-capped mountains. After landing at the airport, we’ll have breakfast and head out of the town. Lukla lies about 1000 m higher than Phakding at an altitude of 2850 m. Making a downhill climb and Following the Dudh Koshi river, we cross a suspension bridge over it. Then make an uphill climb in the trails till we reach Ghat (2530 m). From here, we make a descent till the Dudh Koshi River and cross it. Then walking along the bank of the river, we make a slight climb and arrive at Phakding.

        Today we will be the trekking from Phakding to Namche Bazaar. After having breakfast, we’ll be heading out of the small town, in a crisscross forest path of pines. We continue walking the route that goes to the Benkar valley. Continuing in this path leads into the Sagarmatha National Park where we’ll register trekking permits at the checkpoint in Monjo. Gradually making a steep accent in the trails we arrive at Namche bazaar. This beautiful town is home to the Sherpa community and the gateway to various trekking routes of the Everest region. We’ll be staying overnight at teahouse/lodge in Namche bazaar.

          Namche Bazaar is a thriving Sherpa town in the Everest Region that can only be reached on foot (or by helicopter). It's a common rest stop for acclimatization, which include one night stay before the trail ascends to greater heights. Make your day in town count with these activities, have a short hike, visiting the Oldest House in town, from cultural sight, learning about Sherpa history and Himalayan views.

            Namche Bazaar to Dole is a beautiful trial. From Namche, the wide and scenic beautiful trial continues to kyanjuma valley. The incredible views of Thamserku, Kongde, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Mt. Everest from the trail as we walk to Kyanjuma. From there, the trail divides into two wings: one to Everest Base Camp and the other to Gokyo. We’ll be trekking along the Gokyo trial. From there, the trial descends to Dudh Koshi river which passes under the shades of Rhododendron, Juniper, and coniferous trees. Green pastures along the trail are the grazelands of Yaks. Finally, the trail meets Dole. The views of Khumbila and Tawoche peak from Dole looks incredible. 

              From Dole, the trail takes a steep climb through Lhabarma and Luza. The trail is highly scenic and peaceful. Smell the fragrance of Scrub Junipers as we walk through the amazing trails. Looking deep down we’ll see Dudh Koshi. The trail continues to Macchermo. From a ridge above Machhermo, we can see an enthralling view of Mt. Thamserku.

                From Macchermo, the trail takes an ascent to a scenic ridge. From there, the trail becomes steeper while we climb to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. Along the trail, there is the first Gokyo lake. And, there is Gokyo! A beautiful small village situated on the shore of the beautiful Gokyo third lake, Dudh Pokhari. From the hill close to Gokyo village, Ngozumpa glacier is visible. The hill is the most beautiful viewpoint of Ngozumpa glacier.

                  The best acclimatization schedule for Everest base camp requires more time on the trek to Everest. It’s simple, give yourself more time at critical acclimatization points along the trail, and you give yourself a better chance of a safe and successful trek. Especially in Gokyo (4,750m, 15,583ft) where we will spend a night at this critical height. With the Gokyo Ri above, Gokyo Village showcases jaw-dropping Himalayan panoramas. It’s the second acclimatization day and we adapt to the surroundings while watching spell-binding vistas.

                    After the acclimatization in Gokyo-Ri, the trial elongates towards Thangnak. The trial is short in distance. The views of Mt. Cho Oyu, Everest, Lotse, and Makalu look closer and fantastic from the rugged trials. Thangnak is the eastern part of Gokyo and is a beautiful place.

                      Thangnak to Dzongla is a toughest trek! The trial is filled with boulders and then followed by a steep climb to Cho La pass. The rocks are icy and slippery. Colorful prayer flags flutter in the rhythm of the wind at the top of Cho La and as the trial passes down amazing view of Ama Dablam is visible. The trial decends down to meet Dzongla. Dzongla ia a beautiful place with incredible views of Mt. Ama Dablam, Cholatse, lobuche and Pheriche, a beautiful village in Khumbu.

                        The trial from Dzongla to Lobuche is an easy one. From Dzongla, The trial decends slightly to the footsteps of peak Awi. From there, the short descent through beautiful scene of Mt. Cholatse and Tawache goes ahead towards Lobuche. Lobuche peak appears more clear and beautiful. The splendid trial finally reaches Lobuche.

                          From Lobuche, the trial passes through amazing landscapes. Along the trial, the view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lingtren, Khumbuste and Pumori becomes more prominent. From Lobuche, the trial heads towars Gorakshep. From Gorakshep, the trail climbs up to Kalapathar. Kalapathar is the best viewpoint of Everest.

                            From Kalapathar, the trial steadily passes ahead to the Everest Base Camp. The base camp is a dream destination of enthusiastic trekkers from around the world. From the base camp, Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world rises. After reaching EBC we will then descend to Pheriche. Pheriche ia a village in the Khumbu region, a popular stop for trekkers and climbers. Upon reaching Pheriche, we’ll be staying overnight at teahouse/lodge.

                              The last arch of Everest Base Camp via Gokyo trek is Namche. The trial passes through same beautiful villages like Solmari and Pangboche. Namche is the major trading hub in Khumbu. Trekking from Namche to Gokyo is an incredible journey. We’ll spend the night at treehouse/lodge.

                                On the early morning after having breakfast we’ll be trekking back to Phakding. While returning, we will get to see stunning views of hills, rivers, and snow-capped mountains.

                                  Lukla lies about 1000m higher than Phakding at an altitude of 2850m.We’ll make an uphill climb in the trials to reach back Lukla.

                                     Lukla is perched on the side of a mountain. There is one runway that slopes upward into the side of the mountain. This incline helps to slow down landing aircraft and gives a speed boost to taking off aircraft. Once the runway runs out it is just a freefall to the valley floor below. We’ll be flying back to Kathmandu from Lukla.

                                      Upon reaching Kathmandu, we will head to the hotel and rest for the day. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner and our representative will drop you in the Airport.

                                        Tradition & Culture in Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lake Trek

                                        Everest is mostly resided by Sherpas. They follow Buddhists and Tibetan Buddhists culture. We will get to witness ancient Tibetan Buddhist shrines, chortens, centuries-old monasteries, prayer walls, and kaanis. We will interact with locals and also experience their unique lifestyle, tradition, and culture.


                                        We will be staying in 2 or 3-star hotels in Kathmandu. During the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lake Trek, we will stay in a teahouse or in camp. Teahouse is basically a combination of hotel and lodge. The room will be small with little furniture, bed & blanket. All the accommodations are on a twin-sharing basis. On special request, single rooms can be arranged in the cities. However, single rooms might not be available all the time due to the limited service on higher elevations. Please understand that the services in the teahouse will be very basic and also all the teahouse does not come with attached washrooms.

                                        Meals & Drinking Water

                                        In Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lake Trek, we will enjoy authentic Nepalese food with few other cuisines like Tibetan, Indian. Meals will be served as per the menu of the teahouse. If we will stay in the camp then, we all the meals will be cooked by the porters. Beside that you can find bars, bread, cookies, butter tea, extra on the trail but, remember as the elevation get higher, the cost also gets high. In Kathmandu, you will only get breakfast. There will also be welcome and farewell dinner for you.

                                        Drinking water can be easily found everywhere. You can get hot water from the teahouse and fill in your bottle everytime it gets empty. So, do carry a reusable water bottle with yourself. We request you to not buy mineral water bottle on the way as it will help in preserving the region. Moreover, you can also carry water purifier tablets or SteriPen with yourself to purify the water.

                                        Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lake Trek is a moderate trek. The trails are difficult and challenging in terms of technical climbing and also includes 5-7 hours of walk each day. Therefore you need to be passionate and in good health. Trekking to the higher altitude always demands average physical fitness, positive attitude, and a strong determination. If you have any previous hiking or trekking experience it would be great.

                                        Everest to Rolwaling via Tashi Labsta Trek Permit

                                        Tashi Labsta La/Rolwaling is one of the restricted regions of Nepal, and tourists are required to get certain permits to enter in this region. We will also need to get Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project (GCAP) and Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit.

                                        Besides that to go on trekking in Nepal you need to get special permission from the Government of Nepal, and also required to get TIMS card (TIMS cards is not needed if you have immigration permit).
