Api Base Camp Trek is one of the famous trekking trails in the far western region of Nepal. The trek takes you to one of the most adventures trails in the remote region of Nepal and offers off the beaten track experience. The trail will include the Api Nampa Conservation Area, picturesque Mahakali Valley, high alpine pasture, sub-tropical forests, and panoramic views of the Himalayan mountains. We will get to see the breath-taking view of Api Himal (7,132 m) standing tall right in front of us. The region is extremely isolated due to which lodges of teahouse may not be found everywhere. This makes the region untouched with any modernization. Api Base Camp Trek is a perfect trek for the travelers seeking to traverse in the raw nature with no crowds.


Day to Day Itinerary

We will head to the airport to take our flight for Dhangadhi after having the breakfast. Upon reaching Dhangadhi, we will drive to Mahendra Nagar in a privet tourist bus/van. After we will reach Mahendra Nagar, we will head to our hotel where we will stay for the night.

    After having breakfast, we will leave Mahendra Nagar and move forward to reach Gokuleshwor. The drive will be going to be scenic and go through small settlements. Upon reaching Gokuleshwor, we will head to our camping site.

      Today is our first day of trekking. We will begin trekking through several small settlements. On the way, we will get to see beautiful views of peaks and landscapes. We will reach Karkale where we will be staying for the night. We will spend the day exploring the village and its nearby areas. We will visit monasteries and temple, and interact with the locals. We will spend the day tasting the local foods and admiring the views.

        Leaving Karlkale behind, we will pass by lovely villages and farmlands. On the way, we will cross numerous hanging bridges and after around six hours of trek, we will reach Chiureni Village. This village is famous for its butter trees. We will see many of these trees around our campsite. 

          After having breakfast, we will begin trekking following the Chamliya Khola. Further, the trail becomes narrow and goes through the forested section. After a few hours of trek, we will reach Makarighat where we will camp for night stay. 

            We will ascend and go through some villages. We will see that the settlements are scattered everywhere. The trail will also present us pleasant views of mountains and reach Seti our last destination for the day.

              We will leave Seti behind and begin trekking towards Bayaligaad. The trail will include a few ascends and descends. We will trek through dense forest where we might see wildlife and reach Bayaligaad our last destination for the day.

                We will begin trekking through the dense forest. We will then ascend on a forested trail. On the way, we will get to see several species of flora. The trail further takes us to Simar where we will stop for the night.

                  We will begin our day with a warm breakfast, and after that, we will trek towards Dhauliodar our next destination. Basically, Dhauliodar means cave where people used to live thousands of years ago. Further, we will go through a lush green forest along with amazing views of mountains. On the way, we will also cross few streams and reach our campsite at Dhauliodar. 

                    Today is the most exciting day of the trek as we will ascend to the Api Himal Base Camp. We will ascend for around three hours on a semi-rugged trail and reach the base camp. Upon reaching base camp, we will explore the region and also visit the holy lake where numerous devotees visit every year. 

                      Today is our rest day at the Api Himal Base Camp. We will spend the day exploring the region and soaking its beauty. Our meals will be cooked and served by the crew members. We will also go on a small hike to nearby place or just rest for the whole day.

                        We will wake up early in the morning and have our breakfast. After that, we will descend down to Saheb Bagar following the same trail as we came. After around six hours of walk, we will reach Saheb Bagar where we are going to stay overnight.

                          Leaving Saheb Bagar behind, we will continue our trek towards Makarighat. the trail will be going to be a long. The trail will include several small villages and a forested section along with the gorgeous views of landscapes. 

                            After having breakfast, we are going to trek back on the same trail. We will descend through small settlements and reach Bitulechaur where we are going to stay for the night.

                              Today is the last day of our trek. After having breakfast, we will trek towards Gokuleshwor. The trial will go through small villages along with scenic views. In around six hours of trek, we will reach Gokuleshwor where we will stay for the night. 

                                After having breakfast, we will drive back to Mahendranagar. On the way, we will get to see the last views of the small settlements and gorgeous landscapes. We will reach Mahendranagar where we are going to stay for the night.

                                  After having breakfast, we will drive to Nepalgunj. The route will be same as before and goes through small settlements and forests. Upon reaching Nepalgunj, we will head towards our hotel where we stay for the night. Later in the afternoon, we will visit the market and a few landmarks.

                                    After having breakfast, we will head to the airport for our flight back to Kathmandu. The will going to be scenic, and upon reaching Kathmandu, we will head to our hotel. The whole day is free for us to rest, and later in the evening, we will meet with our crew member and go on farewell dinner. We will also stroll on the colorful and lively streets of Thamel.

                                      Tradition & Culture in Api Base Camp Trek


                                      In Api Base Camp Trek we will mostly get to see Hindus and Buddhists culture. We will get to witness ancient Tibetan Buddhist shrines, chortens, prayer walls, and centuries-old monasteries. We will interact with locals and also experience their lifestyle, tradition, and culture. Moreover, the isolation of this region has contributed immensely to conserve the cultural heritage and tradition for centuries.




                                      We will be staying in 2 or 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Mahendra Nagar. During the Api Base Camp Trek, we will stay in camp. All the accommodations are on a twin-sharing basis. On special request, single rooms can be arranged in the cities.


                                      Meals & Drinking Water


                                      In Api Base Camp Trek, we will enjoy authentic Nepalese food with few other cuisines like Tibetan, Indian. Meals will be cooked and served by the porters. Beside that you can find bars, bread, cookies, butter tea, extra on the trail but, remember as the elevation get higher, the cost also gets high. In Kathmandu and Mahendranagar you will only get breakfast. There will also be welcome and farewell dinner for you.


                                      Drinking water can be easily found everywhere. You can get hot water throughout the trek that you can fill in your bottle everytime it gets empty. So, do carry a reusable water bottle with yourself. We request you to not buy mineral water bottle on the way as it will help in preserving the region. Moreover, you can also carry water purifier tablets or SteriPen with yourself to purify the water.


                                      Api Base Camp Trek Difficulty & Physical Fitness


                                      Api Base Camp Trek is a difficult trek. The trails are not so challenging in terms of technical climbing but, do includes 5-7 hours of walk each day. Therefore you need to be passionate and in good health. Trekking to the higher altitude always demands average physical fitness, positive attitude, and a strong determination. If you have any previous hiking or trekking experience it would be great but, it's not mandatory to go on Api Base Camp Trekking.


                                      Other than that, if you have any kind of health related issues then do consult with your doctors before booking the trip. In case of any medical history, we highly recommend you to inform us so that any future event can be tackled without having any issue.


                                      Best Season to go on Api Base Camp Trek


                                      September to November and March to May are the best seasons to go the Api Base Camp Trek. During this time of the year, the weather is a bright & pleasant, and the sky is also clear which will allow us to see best views.


                                      Api Base Camp Trek Permit


                                      Api Base Camp Trek takes you to one of the restricted regions of Nepal, and tourists are required to get certain permits to enter in this region.


                                      Besides that to go on trekking in Nepal you need to get special permission from the Government of Nepal, and also required to get TIMS card (TIMS cards is not needed if you have immigration permit).
